MQM declares Tuesday a day of mourning

MQM declares Tuesday a day of mourning KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced to observe a 'day of peaceful mourning' on August 23 (Tuesday) across the country and requested all citizens to show solidarity against the killings in Karachi, Geo News reported.

MQM Deputy Convener, Dr. Farooq Sattar made the announcement while addressing a news conference here on Monday.

He alleged that some Pakistan People's Party ministers were patronizing Lyari terrorists and giving them free hand to kill Urdu speaking people.

He said some PPP ministers were supporting terrorists in Karachi and no action was being taken against them. He said terrorists from the People’s Aman Committee were sending slips demanding money and those who refused to pay were being attacked.

Commenting on the six days of violence in the city during which 91 people were killed, Sattar said terrorists from the Aman Committee were targeting Mohajirs and were kidnapping, torturing and killing them.

The MQM Deputy Convener also demanded that the President and Prime Minister take notice of the killing of Mohajirs in Karachi and take action against terrorists from the Peoples Aman Committee and those ministers who are supporting them.
