ISLAMABAD: Akhtar Buland Rana has taken oath as the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Saturday, Geo News reported. The oath was administered by Supreme Court’s Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari had rejected accusations against Akhtar Buland Rana. The President had responded to the letter written by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry saying that Rana was the appropriate person for the post and accusations against him were never proven.
The letter added that Rana was the senior most officer of the audit department and according to service rules, his dual nationality could not be used as a factor to stop his appointment.
The CJP had written a letter to President Zardari leveling serious charges against Rana regarding his character.
