Pak-Russia ties are in greatest interest of region: PM Gilani


SAINT PETERSBERG: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has invited Russian people and the government for further improving relations, saying that Pak-Russia ties are in the greatest interest of the region.

The Prime Minister was addressing businessmen and senior officials here. Gilani welcomed Prime Minister Putin’s proposal of Eurasian Union as a positive initiative for the well being and socio-economic uplift of all those countries, that would form this union.

Pakistan also hopes that Eurasian Union will become a bridge of friendship and cooperation between Europe and Asia, he remarked.

He said Pakistan attaches great importance to SCO and hopes that in the days to come it will play even a more greater role in bringing stability, peace and prosperity to the region.

The Prime Minister said in the current global economic crisis, bilateral and regional cooperation has become a greater necessity.

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani would represent Pakistan in Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) summit being held on Monday (today).

Prime Minister is visiting Russia on the invitation of his counterpart Vladimir Putin. Pakistan is willing to get full membership of the organization. Pakistan currently holds the observer status in the organization.

Gilani will also have important meeting with his Chinese counterparts and will exchange the views on changed regional situation with them.
